After breaking and entering into a room at Kotokuom and stealing a sum of GHC1,500.00, 19-year-old Kwabena Awuah, an illegal gold miner has been sentenced to five years in jail by the Nkawie circuit court.
The convict allegedly commited the theft while the owner was out to buy food.
The Nakwie Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Johnson Abbey handled the proceedings of the case. Kwabena Awuah pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
According to Detective Chief Inspector, Comfort Amankwaa, the incident occured on June 2nd 2020, around 1pm. The complainant, on his way to buy food locked his door. Upon his return, he realized his room had been broken into and his money had been stolen. The complainant then inquired in his neighborhood about the case. A witness then told him about having spotted Kwabena Awuah exiting his room.
The prosecution said the convict admitted committing the offence in his statement. Thus, he was charged and brought before court for sentencing.
