The National Democratic Party (NDP) has chided former President Mahama on his refusal to accept the outcome of the 2020 general elections.
According to the General Secretary of the party Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, Mahama must accept defeat to protect the peace and stability of the country because the entire electioneering process was free and fair.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said all the international observer missions have declared the just-ended election as transparent thus he does not understand why Mahama would like to hold the nation to ransom.
“It is therefore surprising that the NDC and Mr Mahama will find it difficult to accept the unequivocal verdict of the Ghanaian people as put out by the Electoral Commission, which has been corroborated by the Coalition of Domestic Elections Observers, and endorsed as free and fair by Civil Society Organizations, the European Union Observer Mission, ECOWAS Observer Mission and indeed by the International Community,” he said.
He added that the party’s use of unlawful protests and demonstrations to vent their displeasure over the election results does not augur well for the democracy of Ghana. He advised the NDC to use proper legal means to seek redress.
“The NDC cannot in one breadth touts itself as a democratic party and yet fails to use a democratic process to resolve its grievance. It is only the courts that can grant the reliefs the party seeks and not continuous unlawful protests,” he said.
Meanwhile, recent reports from the NDC indicate that the party has headed to the Supreme Court to seek redress as far the 2020 election results are concerned.
