Ghanaian singer, Adina Thembi has said that she looks to win a Grammys like Angelique Kidjo. She revealed this while reacting to the Benin legend’s recent GRAMMY award win.
Angélique Kidjo just picked up the Grammy award for ‘Best World Music’ for her album ‘Celia,’ and she used the opportunity to shout out fellow artist Burna Boy, who was also up for the award.
The singer whose real name is Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo, grabbed the award ahead of Altin Gun, “Gece”, Bokante & Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, “What Heat”, Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet, “Fanm D’Ayiti”, and Angelique Kidjo, “Celia”.
This marks Kidjo’s fourth Grammy win. Her album Celia pays homage to the late Afro-Cuban singer Celia Cruz, who Kidjo described as someone who “never shied away from her African heritage,” in an interview with OkayAfrica last year.
While sharing the Grammy performance by the Benin singer, Adina Thembi wrote: “To say I wanna be like her when I grow up, is an understatement!!”
She added the hashtag “#Goals#roadtogrammys” indicating that she’s eyeing the prestigious award.
