Afua Asantewaa meets Akon in Ivory Coast

Afua Asantewaa, the newly appointed Tourism Ambassador of Ghana, had an incredible encounter with Akon during the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast. Afua caught the attention of the Senegalese-American music legend.

In a brief conversation, Akon couldn’t contain his amazement when he learned about Afua’s remarkable feat of singing non-stop for five days. Enthralled by her talent, Akon wasted no time and promptly introduced Afua to some of his African friends.

“For singing for the longest, you know she sang straight for five days,” Akon told his friends. “I am a lover of music and it was a pleasure to have met you @akon @sofitelabidjan,” Afua said in an Instagram post.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum had a clear goal in mind: to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. Her incredible journey began on December 24, 2023, and was scheduled to conclude on December 27, 2023.

The previous record holder, Sunil Waghmare, had set the bar high in 2012 with an impressive 105 hours of continuous singing. On December 29, 2023, she emerged victorious, surpassing the previous record with an astonishing 126 hours and 52 minutes of non-stop singing. Her achievement was nothing short of extraordinary.
