Akufo Addo should sponsor underground musicians – Singer pleads

It’s obvious the number of underground musicians in Ghana exceeds 2 million. Don’t be surprised, they have been told that music pays, therefore, they don’t want to venture into agriculture.

And the truth is, less than 2 per cent of the 2 million underground musicians especially the rappers make it as a result of many factors including financial difficulties.

So, it’s no surprise that Jeff Moes, a Dutch-Ghanaian musician who recently moved back to Ghana to pursue his music career, has suggested per his observation of the music industry in Germany, what he feels should be done to make the Ghanaian music industry thrive better.

He stated that the upcoming artistes in Germany have more opportunities because the government gives them support for their projects. “I have friends up there who got aid from the government to do their EPs, music videos and stuff like that”, he said.

Per this, he put forward that, “There are so many upcoming artistes who do not have the platform and the finances, so if there is more help from the government to support upcoming artistes, I think our music industry will do better”.

Jeff detailed that the artistes should be made to go through some processes to prove their worth, where their songs are listened to and assessed, and if they successfully go through this stage, the government can be guaranteed that investing in these artistes will pay off.
