Alan Bersten revealed in April 2018 that he needed a surgical treatment due to a tumor in his neck. Earlier in February 2018, he began experiencing severe stomach pain following which he undergoes a blood test and it was revealed that he had a serious condition known as Hyperparathyroidism that was caused by tumor.
He then went through a surgical operation which lead to the removal of his left parathyroid gland by the doctors. After Alan Bersten recuperate for a while, he returned to the DWTS stage as a dancer again.

Alan Bersten began dancing at the age of seven and started participating in competitions. He won the Youth Championship and the Under 21 National Titles. He was part of the contestants of season 10 of the reality dance competition called So You Think You Can Dance where he eventually finished in the top 6.
He then toured across North America alongside his fellow dancers and later embarked on their Burn the Floor tour. He then featured in a recurring role in the season six of the Glee television show after his tour.

He has been on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars show for five seasons. He was then partnered with celebrity Heather Morris during the 24th season.
