On Monday, April 21, news broke out that an angry man stormed the Wesley Girls Senior High School to withdraw his daughter following the school’s refusal to allow Muslims to fast during Ramadan.

Ishmael Zakaria Alhassan, the father of Bushira Ishmael, drove from Accra to Wesley Girls to carry out his threat of withdrawing his child.

He was convinced the child would be better off in another school that would allow her to fast than to be in a school that would infringe on the ritual of the Muslim to fast.

According to the GES, reports that a student was denied the right to fast in the ongoing Ramadan is disturbing.

In a statement to the media, the GES directed all schools to allow Muslim students to fast.

It however asked parents to sign an undertaking that they will not hold the schools responsible for any adverse health implication as a result of the fasting.
