‘Rap Music Started In Africa, Not USA’- Gyedu Blay Ambulley

1 min

Ghanaian Highlife artiste, Gyedu Blay Ambulley has asserted that rap music started from Africa and not the United States of America as history depicts.

A Simple Google search says rap music or Hiphop originated in New York City in the late 70s. Depending on your definition of rap, it came from the west coast hip hopgroup, NWA. They are the first popular west coast rap group and they made gangster rap mainstream.

But Ambulley, who is often credited for starting rap music in Ghana in the 80s says it’s false. He suggested the slaves taken from Africa too rap music to America.

He made this know during an interview on Hitz FM’s Success Story programme.
