American actor Bill Cosby to be released from jail after court overturns 10-year conviction term [Details]

On Wednesday, Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned American actor and comedian Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, allowing him to be released.

Cosby, 83, had spent more than two years in a state prison near Philadelphia serving a three- to 10-year sentence.

The state Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that he was not prosecuted for allegedly drugging and molesting Andrea Constand in 2004 because of an agreement with a previous prosecutor.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the ruling prevents the case from being retried.

Cosby, who was once known as “America’s Dad,” was charged in late 2015, just days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired. After a hung jury in his first trial, he was convicted in his second trial in 2018.
