Bourdain was born in Manhattan on 25 June 1956 to parents Gladys and Pierre Bourdain. His parents were well to do. Anthony’s mother worked with The New York Times as a staff editor whiles his father worked as a salesman at a New York City camera store
He graduated from the Dwight-Englewood School in 1973 and Vassar College. Whiles at Vassar College, Bourdain worked in seafood restaurants in Provincetown, Massachusetts. After deciding to pursue a career in cooking, Anthony dropped out of school after two years and attended The Culinary Institute of America graduating in 1978. After school, he worked in a lot of kitchens in New York City. Bourdain was also the executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles 1998 for many years. He also wrote a lot of cookbooks like Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook, A Cook’s Tour and many more.

Bourdain married twice the first one with Nancy Putkoski in 1985. They had no child and the marriage collapsed in 2005. Two years later on 20 April 2007, Bourdain married his second and final marriage to Ottavia Busia. This time, he had a daughter born to him in 2007. However, in 2016, the marriage also collapsed. Anthony later took a girlfriend by the name of Asia Argento in 2017.

Bourdain was found by his friend, Éric Ripert dead in a Kaysersberg Vignoble luxury hotel room on 8th June 2018. According to the public prosecutor for Colmar, his death was through suicide.
