The Pastor of the African Faith Church in Nhinahin, Ashanti region, has been arrested on suspicion of defiling his sixteen-year-old daughter.
He allegedly committed the act while claiming to be guided by the Holy Spirit to cleanse the girl who he claimed had committed the sin of pre-marital sex.
The victim is a St. Paul’s Junior High School JHS 3 student.
The Ashanti regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit apprehended the suspect (DOVVSU).
Pastor Kwame Nkansah, 41, a carpenter by trade, accused his biological daughter of breaking her virginity in December 2020.
Although the 16-year-old girl denied her father’s accusation, the constant victimization and threats from her father forced her to confess.
On December 7th, 2020, Pastor Kwame Nkansah is said to have had sex with his daughter to exorcise her of the omen of engaging in early sex.
Following the alleged defilement, he had sexual relations with her whenever he pleased.
The young girl, who was uncomfortable with the act, reportedly opened up to some neighbours, through whom the police gathered information and eventually arrested the pastor.
Suzanna Dery, the regional coordinator for DOVVSU Superintendent, stated that the suspect warned his child after the act not to open up to anyone or she would die.
She went on to say that the girl was traumatized when she was rescued by the police and was later taken to the hospital for a medical check-up, but she is doing fine now.
According to Supt Dery, the suspect initially denied the crime but later confessed to the investigating officer. She also stated that the victim has been relocated from his father’s home to Kumasi.
She took advantage of the situation to urge other young girls in the same situation to contact the police for help and rescue.
