Barcelona Legal Representative Files Lawsuit To Avoid Messi From Joining PSG Club

Barcelona law representative has initiated a formal complaint with the European Commission to avoid Lionel Messi from joining the French Football club, PSG.

The lawyers claim PSG’s Financial Fair Play condition is worse than FC Barcelona as they feel they have the legal grounds to push the issue.

The six-times Balon d’Or player had his last press conference yesterday to formally confirm his exit from the football club, Barcelona after 21 years of playing for the team and it was emotional.

Messi reveals he was willing to slash half of his salary to continue to play for the football giant due to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play laws but he was informed that agreement to extend his contract with the club was not possible.

Hours after saying goodbye to the fans of the club, PSG knocked with a huge contract and it was reported that Messi and his father Jorge had accepted the French’s formal offer and considering it.

Check out part of the lawsuit,

“On behalf of FC Barcelona partners, my firm has prepared a complaint with the European Commission and demands for provisional suspension before civil and administrative courts in France to prevent Paris-Saint Germain from signing Lionel Messi.

PSG’s ratios in terms of ‘Financial Fair Play’ are worse than those of FC Barcelona. In 2019-2020, PSG’s salary-to-income ratio was 99%, while Barcelona’s was 54%. Meanwhile, the difference has increased.

It is inconceivable that the ‘Financial Fair Play’ serves to aggravate the drifts of football-business, the instrumentalization of football by sovereign powers, and the distortion of competitions”
