Captain Smart, the host of the morning program on Onua FM/TV, has apologized to female broadcasters who were offended by his recent admonition of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in response to the Black Stars’ early departure from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The ace broadcaster whose real name is Blessed Godsbrain Smart claimed he is making the apology out of “respect” for women in general and female sports broadcasters in particular.

In his words, it was “smart” of him to be direct with the GFA about his admonition. The fiery TV/Radio host reprimanded the Association for allowing female TV presenters to continue supporting the Black Stars.

Speaking on Maakye on Tuesday, December 13, Captain Smart said, “I chose my words right, so I didn’t say ‘TV Female Sports Presenters’. I didn’t say that.”

He appeared not remorseful by saying the statement he made referenced TV female presenters, many of whom are on YouTube currently, adding some female sports presenters have taken this issue a “world cup” but “because of the respect I have for women. . .if you think you are hurt [as] a female sports presenter”, he stated.

Captain Smart’s utterance stirred the anger of many journalists, female journalists in particular, with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) calling for an unqualified apology from him.

The Association, in a strongly worded statement, condemned the morning show host and said it found his utterance demeaning to female journalists in general.
