Okwenya, located in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region, has had an electric power pole slashed by unknown assailants in the community.

Seth Tetteh, the assemblyman for the Okwenya district, has verified the occurrence.

“Our community was not affected by the cut off by the ECG in the two Krobo Municipalities; Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo Municipalities, even though we are part of Yilo Krobo.

“We experienced light out around 11:30pm Thursday night, we felt it was a usual light off. Only to wake up to find one electric power pole cut down, with a chain saw guess,” he said.

Further, Mr. Tetteh revealed that authorities from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Military were in the Okwenya neighborhood to evaluate the Power pole.

Upon inspecting the power pole, the ECG manager and a few military officials assured the locals that law enforcement would soon be there. He then said, “We hope they arrive to repair the pole for us.”

As a reminder, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) disconnected electricity to the municipalities of Lower Manya Krobo and Yilo krobo for the sake of its employees’ safety ten days ago.

The emergency situation has forced residents, medical centers, companies, and senior high schools to purchase gasoline to run generators.

The slow death of the local economy is mirrored by the psychological torture endured by those who have been left in the dark.

Though some local chiefs, ECG executives, and officials from the Energy Ministry have met repeatedly to try to find a solution, so far no consensus has been reached.
