African politics is described as evil taking into consideration the mess that comes with it. For it’s characterized by insults, lies and deceit, therefore, gospel musicians are advised to stay away from it because of the sacred nature of the music genre they represent.
However, Diana Asamoah who doubles as an evangelist and gospel musician has posited in a recent interview that there’s nothing wrong with a gospel artist rallying behind a political party. To the best of her knowledge in the Christian Bible, Daniel, Jeremiah, others, were great politicians so as contemporary gospel musicians can venture into the game.
Evangelist Diana Asamoah who was honoured by the incumbent NPP in 2016 for composing a campaign song for them said this in a interview with QuooFante, host of ‘AroundTown Entertainment’ on Kessben TV in Kumasi. According to her, gospel artistes are not expected to keep mute when wrong is still going on in the country.
“Jeremiah and Daniel were great politicians according to the Christian Bible. This is because politicians desire the goodwill of the nation regardless. Whenever the citizens start complaining about bad governance, what it means is that they’re looking forward to hearing from God to rescue them. In this situation, gospel preachers and artistes are expected to come in for the people’s rescue”, she stated.
When asked if supporting New Patriotic Part (NPP) has positively affected her music career in any way, the evangelist cum gospel musician responded in affirmative. To her, she feels no regret in publicly vouching her support for the incumbent political party.
