We are going to take a look at Bob Kerslake’s obituary shortly after we learned his cause of death was linked to cancer
Bob Kerslake was a British senior civil servant. He was the head of the Home Civil Service, after the retirement of the former holder, the cabinet secretary, Sir Gus O’Donnell on 31 December 2011 until September 2014.
In Bath, Somerset, Kerslake was born on February 28, 1955. He went to Wells’ The Blue School. While attending the University of Warwick, where he also served as general secretary of the students’ union, he earned a first-class degree in mathematics.
After becoming a Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy member, Kerslake had a number of positions with London’s councils before taking the helm as chief executive of the London Borough of Hounslow. In 1997, he relocated to Sheffield and accepted the position of chief executive of the Sheffield City Council.
He served as the Homes and Communities Agency’s chief executive from 2008 to 2010, and in September 2010 Kerslake was named the department’s permanent secretary.
Kerslake was chosen to lead the impartial inquiry into the Manchester Arena bombing in July 2017. The investigation’s findings, also known as the Kerslake Report, were released in March 2018.
In protest of what he called “dire NHS funding problems” and calling for “a fundamental rethink (of) the way that the NHS is funded and organized,” he resigned as chair of King’s College Hospital Trust in December 2017.
A short while thereafter, allegations arose claiming that he had been asked to leave two days earlier due to the trust’s “poor financial performance” by the head of NHS Improvement.

Ros Kerslake, a former head of the Civil Service and sister of Lord Kerslake, tweeted the tragic news and expressed how devastated the family was. Lord Kerslake received numerous tributes, with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer praising him as an accomplished public servant and well-liked figure in Westminster. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, also paid tribute to Lord by underlining his dedication to public service and his influence on enhancing both the city and the nation.
Additionally, friends and industry colleagues have paid glowing tribute to him on Facebook, one of which is seen below;

Bob Kerslake cause of death linked to cancer
Kerslake died from cancer on 1 July 2023 at age 68. Genes, the fundamental building blocks of inheritance, can change in ways that result in cancer. Chromosomes are long, tightly packed DNA strands where genes are organized. Since genes that determine how our cells behave, particularly how they grow and divide, are altered, cancer is a genetic disease.
