The Boycott of VGMA By The Gospel Musicians Will Go Against Them – Bulldog

For sometime now, The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has come under serious scrutiny as a result of a comment made by George Quaye, former public relations officer for the VGMA board. According to him, the gospel musicians in Ghana offer the most bribes in exchange for an awards per his own personal experiences.

Although, George Quaye made these bribery allegations on a TV Entertainment show dubbed ‘The Pundit’ at GhOne. The allegations have caused a stir or better still division among the gospel musicians calling on George Quaye to mention names and some trying to boycott this year’s VGMA.

Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson known in showbiz as Bulldog in an interview with Nana Yaw Poku a.k.a Dj Roar on Ashanti’s no-1 radio station Kessben FM last Friday believes that George Quaye got it all wrong for coming out to make the bribery allegations. Therefore, he was quick to commend George for coming out formally to apologise to the public and those that felt offended by his ‘childish‘ revelations against the gospel musicians.

Fast forward, “Bulldog says the intentions of the gospel musicians to boycott this year’s VGMA will go against them and it will not have any negative effect on the smooth running of the biggest music annual event organized by Charterhouse”.

Simply, there are only two (2) slot meant for the gospel musicians when it comes to the Ghana Music Awards. Thus, Gospel Song of The Year and Gospel Artiste of The Year categories. Therefore, the negative impact on the VGMA will not be felt if they decide to call it off as a section of the gospel musicians are calling for. Also, Bulldog in his personal preferences says he don’t value or place too much priority on money.

He linked this to the fact that the gospel musicians should place much priority on the award plagues given and even their nominations because of the prestige attached to winning an award as a musician. To him, gospel musicians who’re believed to be Christians should learn how to forgive and forget as the Holy Bible preach for forgiveness.
