Executive Member of Global Islamic Point, Skeikh Hussein Hassan Yeboah has bared his teeth at the Methodist Church of Ghana over the brouhaha surrounding the Muslim students who were prevented from fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan.
Recall that when the incident happened, the Ghana Education Service (GES) directed the school to reverse their decision and allow the student to exercise their religious obligation without any restriction.
However, the church stood its ground and disregarded the directive from the GES. The church in an official statement stated thus;
“Fasting undertaken by students for various reasons and observed differently by the respective groupings have had varied health implications on our students over the years. The net effect was that students developed various health conditions.
The school, therefore, took the decision then that irrespective of one’s religious background, fasting was not permitted,” it said.
It’s against this background that Skeikh Hussein Hassan Yeboah said Ramadan is a pillar of Islam, and Muslims should not be prevented from fasting.
He contended that Ghana is a secular state and has laws that allow Christians, Muslims, and African Traditional believers to practice hence one religion, should not be seen as superior to the other; adding that Muslims must not be discriminated against in schools.
He believes what the school did is a recipe for disaster as it could potentially start a religious war that will turn the country upside down.
”Those playing the war drums should know that we can equally play a war drum. We can do more than he is doing but it is not the solution so they should be careful. Can they stand when there is a war in Ghana? They should go and google the fastest growing religion in the world. Islam will still remain stronger in the country,” the Islamic Scholar was quoted by rainbowradio online.
