With a heavy heart and teary eyes, Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan on Wednesday, went on her knees to feverishly beg and appeal to assembly members of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Area to accept Mayor-nominee, Ernest Arthur.

Mr Arthur served in President Akufo-first Addo’s term and was re-elected to a second term.

He has been praised for the numerous development projects that have occurred in the area, and Madam Assan is confident that his confirmation will be a step in the right direction.

To secure a two-thirds majority, the nominee needed 44 ‘Yes’ votes.

However, it appears that the assembly members were not sufficiently convinced by the regional minister’s actions, as they voted against him.

After several hours of delay, he received 40 ‘YES’ votes and 25 ‘NO’ votes out of a total of 65 votes cast, which was insufficient to qualify him.

Attempts by the Presiding Member to obtain a second vote were futile, as some NDC members held a press conference to demand proof of President Akufo-Addo’s re-nomination.

The Assembly will vote again, however, because Ernest Arthur has been re-nominated by the President.
