Cecil Tetteh Kumah: Mfantsipim School student adjudged the Overall Best Student in the 2020 WASSCE

Cecil Tetteh Kumah of the Mfantsipim School has been adjudged and named the Overall Best Student in the 2020 WASSCE at the International Excellence awards instituted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The International Excellence awards was instituted to celebrate and honour students who performed exceptionally well in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The WASSCE 2020 which was written by 5 English speaking Africa countries with over two million students participating clearly shows the mettle Cecil Tetteh Kumah has to prove to be the overall best student.

With a total point of 650.1328. which is the highest any student who took part in 2020 WASSCE scored across all the 5 African countries, Cecil was presented with a cheque of $1,500.

Cecil Tetteh Kumah is currently with the Columbia University in the USA studying Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.

Other Awardees

Interestingly, the second and third Overall Best Student awards were won by Ghanaian students.

The second Overall Best Student award went to Godfred Aseda Obeng of the Hope College at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region. This means Godfred is the second most brilliant student in the 2020 WASSCE as far as the five African countries are concerned.

Scoring a total point of 625. 6953 and took home a cheque of $1,200. Mr Godfred Aseda Obeng is currently studying at the University of Ghana.

The third Overall Best Student award went to Ms Afua Manukure Ansah, She scored a point of 624. 640. and was given a cheque of $900. Ms Afua Manukure Ansah is currently studying at Cornell University, USA.

Other distinguished teachers of various schools and partners were awarded. The event was attended by officials of WAEC, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa and other representatives from the Education Ministry and affiliate bodies.
