With the recent death of Ray Styles, it has become imperative for the public to get to know about the harm we are causing to our bodies and how we can help ourselves stay healthy and not go to hospitals more than twice in a year.

Growing up, one thing my father used to do every month was to prepare herbs for us to drink. he would combine, neem tree leaves, lemon, the bark of other plants and other ingredients and make sure we take it even if we were not sick. As bitter as the conconction was, we still took and I can say that we have spent less time in the hospital till date. Even when I’m feeling a little blue sometimes, I make my own conconctions using the same herbs and it works wonders. Within a few minutes, I feel strong and healthy again.

Even though in Ghana here we often advise people to use herbal medicine to treat themselves, some still prefer the othordox medication because it is supposed to be “safer”.

Well, who am I to condemn othordox medication especially when the Food And Drugs Authority has approved of it.

It is with this knowledge that I want to share with us, the harm we are causing to our vital organs with the things we gulp down.

Ray Styles was reportedly diagnosed with a Liver failure and all efforts to make him better proved futile leading to his death. I am sure that with his death, many people keep wondering about what could have possibly caused his liver to fail him. That is a question you and I have no answer to.

But I do have an answer to the general causes of kidney and liver dysfunction.

Let’s start with the major causes of kidney and liver dysfunction.

1. Dehydration

2. Unbalanced Meal

3. High Blood Pressure

4. Lack of Exercise

5. Smoking and Drinking

6. Taking too much pills and conconctions for weight loss & weight gain

7. Unprotected Sex

8. Being Overweight

9. Mixing medications for different results.

Now that the causes have been identified, let’s talk solution.

Let’s go step by step.

1. Dehydration:

This is when you don’t drink enough water. You know what they say, “water is life” an average person can live up to a week without food but not without water. The person will die. Drinking enough water will help your kidneys function properly. The color of your urine either be white or straw-colored. However, if it’s darker, it’s a sign that you need to drink water.

2. Unbalanced Meal:

I know you have probably heard this more than a dozen times but it is very important. I know you love your fufu with plenty meat but you have to limit it if you want to make your liver and kidney happy. Add more vegetables and fruits to your diet. In Ghana here, our locally produced vegetables and fruits are not as expensive as the junk food we love eating. Adding a slice of cucumber to your rice and even yam chips will go a long way to help you.

3. High Check Blood Pressure

your blood pressure on daily basis if possible. If you are engaged in an activity that causes your blood pressure to rise, check it and refrain from it.

4. Lack of Exercise:

When you are happily indulging in your favorite fast foods and carbonated drinks, don’t forget to exercise. It doesn’t necessarily mean sign up for a gym class. You can walk around your room for 30 minutes while you stretch your muscles. This will not only keep you in shape but it will also keep you active all the time. Don’t just sit there!! Get up and walk around!

5. Smoking And Drinking

Funny enough, the dangers of smoking is nicely indicated on the packs of cigarettes yet people still buy it anyway. Drink in moderation, go go out every weekend with your “boys” or “girls” because they will still come and drink at your funeral. Drink responsibly and if possible, avoid it at all cost. And for smoking, the least said about it the better because you and I know that smoking won’t help anyone.

6. Taking of pills and potions for weight loss & weight gain comes with serious side effects that most Vendors won’t tell you.

If you want to lose weight, exercise, drink water, avoid carbonated drinks and add lemon to your meal and see your weight fall off. All these quick remedies for weight loss will in the long run cause certain complications to your organs. Protect them.

7. Unprotected Sex:

surprised right? Yes, having unprotected sex with multiple partners increases your risk of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C which can affect your kidneys and liver.

8. Overweight

If you feel you have gained too much weight, speak to your doctor before embarking on any diet. Your blood group can help you know which foods are good for you to lose weight and which are detrimental to your health. Don’t be overweight because the complications are huge. From high blood pressure to other health related issues.

9. Stop mixing medications to cause abortion or solve other problems. You are only causing harm to your kidney and liver.

Bottom line is, make money to enjoy but not to be going in and out of hospitals and popping in different medications.
