Manager of Poly Changda Engineering Company, Xue Hui, was denied bail by the Sekondi District Court, presided over by Her Worship Nana Abena Asoh Owusu Omenyo, on charges of attempted murder against his employee.

The presiding judge ruled that bail could only be granted by a trial court.

Chief Prosecutor Superintendent Steve Addom told the court that the defendant, a Chinese national, is the manager of the Takoradi-based Poly Changda Engineering Company and that the plaintiff, an employee of the same firm and a concrete mixer, is named Isaac Boateng.

According to his story, the complainant arrived to work at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27 and left at 3:00 p.m instead of the usual 5:00pm

The accused individual approached the complaint the next day around lunch, demanding to know why the complainant had closed the business without permission earlier than normal.

An argument ensued, culminating in the accused informing the complainant that he had been fired.

A frustrated complainant allegedly packed up his work clothes and went to the defendant to buy him off.

They got into a heated debate over something. The accused individual exited his workplace with a flip knife and slashed the victim’s throat without any provocation.

According to an interview with Connect FM, defence attorney Akpene Darko Cobbinah claimed his client is showing enormous sorrow since he never intended to hurt his staff.

Through his client’s instruments, he said, the corporation is already covering all medical costs.

Isaac Boateng, the complainant, said that he is afraid as a result of what happened.

“All what I was demanding for was for my salary to be paid since he told me he had sacked me. Since the incident my family members especially my wife and kids have always been crying. But I’m trusting that justice will be served.”

The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, October 11 for committal proceedings.
