Jonathan, a Ghanaian church leader, has shared his story of how his gambling addiction cost him 800,000ghc and left him with a lifetime of debt around his neck.

Sports betting cost the young guy everything, including his wife’s money, and he now owes 100,000ghc to the credit card company.

According to Jonathan, he was a rookie who got fortunate the first time around and ended up winning the tournament. However, his exhilaration at the prospect of making easy money led him into a black hole from which he is still trying to climb out.

“My first bet was 5000ghc, which was presented to me by a buddy.” “I was a newbie, but the man who introduced me was an expert at sports analysis, so I made 3900ghc,” he added.

That’s what he told Giovani on the 3FM Drive show: that following his initial victory, he went on to earn Ghc80k on his third try. After that, he became addicted to gambling.

“Second time, I put a bet of 3000ghc and won 5000ghc. I bet 20,000ghc and won Ghc80,000 the third time. I prayed to God, asking, “Where have you been all this time?” and now I’m suffering. In the beginning, Jonathan had no idea there was a way to gain money from gambling, but on that day, “the bet-spirit went deep into my soul and blood,” he said.

On the third day, Jonathan invested all of the money he’d earned that day in an attempt to win and lose it all.

As he continued to borrow money, it was only the beginning. He also borrowed money from his life savings and his company. He had nothing left!

And as we speak, Jonathan has repented and has now become an advocate preaching against gambling addiction.
