A recent surprise visit by Ciara and her husband Russell Wilson to a maximum security prison represents one innovative method they have found to give back.
The pair reportedly went to Florida’s Everglades Correctional Institution last week to assist in leading a prayer with 300 male prisoners. In a video uploaded by God Behind Bars, the group that organized the journey, the Denver Broncos quarterback and the singer of “Goodies” appeared to be totally absorbed in the experience.
The nonprofit facilitates connections between incarcerated individuals and their families and a nearby church. Another section of the video showed Russell reading a few passages from the Bible before Ciara sang to the audience.
“27 incarcerated men gave their lives to Jesus inside of a maximum security prison,” a representative of the non-profit wrote in an Instagram post on Friday (March 10). “300 incarcerated men filled the prison chapel to hear a word from @dangerusswilson. He opened the night in Isaiah, ‘Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.’ – Isaiah 43:19.”
The rep continued: “In a place so easily filled with so much division, there was a moment where Incarcerated men put their arms around each other and prayed for those struggling with anxiety and depression. After @ciara sang WAYMAKER, men came to the front and wept, giving their lives to Jesus.”
