Walker was born on March 19, 1977, in Crawley, West Sussex. He attended the University of Sheffield and graduated with a degree in Journalism Studies. He began his career as a trainee at the Sheffield Star before working for local radio stations like Hallam FM, Pennine FM, and Radio Sheffield.
In 2004, he joined BBC Sport and covered major sporting events such as the Olympics, World Cup, and Wimbledon Championships. He quickly became a well-known face to sports fans, renowned for his extensive knowledge and insight into a broad range of sports.
In 2016, he took over as the primary presenter of BBC Breakfast, replacing Bill Turnbull.
