The RIAA presented Michael Jackson with a few posthumous gifts on what would have been his 64th birthday (Recording Industry Association of America).
His previous albums’ hits, “Beat It,” “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” and collaboration with Paul McCartney, “The Girl Is Mine,” each gained a new Platinum certification, while the lovable ballad from Thriller, “The Lady In My Life,” won its first Gold certification.
However, the single from “Thriller” and “Billie Jean” both received Diamond certification. In 1983, the album Thriller received its overall Diamond certification.
In August 2021, it gained 34 times multi-platinum status. Bad also reached 11 times multi-platinum in the same month after receiving a Diamond certification in February 2017. Michael Jackson’s album Thriller and his estate celebrate their 40th anniversaries this year.
As Michael Jackson’s Thriller turns 40 this year, his estate is reissuing the album along with a bonus CD of unreleased music and demos.
After Labor Day, the new songs will begin to be released, and they will be finished in time for the new album’s release in November. Pop-up activations will also be made in conjunction with the anniversary of Thriller.
Aside from the Thriller hype, a biography about the late international superstar is in development, and a national tour of the Tony-winning musical commemorating his legacy will start.
