‘Dead’ man turns up alive and well eight months after he was CREMATED

A 36-year-old man identified as Deepack from India has returned alive eight months after he was cremated after his death.

According to reports, the Police from the town of Margao in Goa found Deepak Balakrishnan Kandi in a hotel in the old station road area on Tuesday night.

The police said Deepack was transferred to the custody of Kerala police and later discovered they cremated a wrong body.

Police sources said that Deepak went missing on June 7 last year from the town of Meppayur, which is in the Kerala district and around 540km south of Margao.

After Deepack was reported missing in June, the police found the body of a man from a beach in Kerala on the 17th of July and mistaken it for Deepack.

The family members of Deepak performed the final rites, but days later, Kerala police realised the  cremated body in fact belonged to Irshad, a native of Panthirkkara in Kerala, who had also gone missing.

However, after A DNA test was conducted on samples of Deepak’s remains confirmed the police’s case of mistaken identity.

The police run a check of the guestlist of a hotel along the old station road where they discovered a unique contact that can be obtained voluntarily by the citizens of India and resident foreign nationals – that gave away Deepak’s identity.

Deepack was arrested by the police and placed in custody. He told the police that in the eights of his absence, he travelled to places including various places, including Jaipur, Delhi and Punjab, before arriving in Goa recently.
