Ghana’s first all-female music band, which is also the first of its kind in Africa, has chalked 10 years since it was formed.
Founded in 2009 by leading vocalist, Della Hayes, the band has grown from strength to strength and has chalked several feats, including multiple awards and nominations.
To commemorate the milestone, the band is scheduled to perform at Alliance Francaise on September 14, 2019, at 7PM local time.
The band specializes in Afrobeat, Highlife and Hippidippip (the distinctive style they coined themselves)
The band has also earmarked some top notch collaborations with veteran artists such as Naa Amanua, Asabea Cropper and the Kumasi Golden Ladies band.
The band has performed at about all the major festivals in the sub-region and has been a catalyst for the formation of all women music bands in West Africa (two in Ghana and one in Ivory Coast).
Speaking about the progress of the band and how far they have come, Della Hayes told Graphic Showbiz in an exclusive interview that it hasn’t been at all.
“Celebrating ten years for any band is not a small thing, celebrating 10 years with an all-women band is a very big thing, and starting the first-ever female band in Africa against all the odds and naysayers was a rocketer at that time.
We want to say a big thank you to the people who have supported us over the past ten years, and celebrate with them.
Della will also commission her ‘Della, Womanity & You’ agenda, an event where the strengths, talent, and skills of women are projected on the same day.
Tickets for the event are selling at just Ghc30 and Ghc15 for students. For ticket reservation, please call 0540120555
