Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received the backing of Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), to head the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
He claimed that among all the other potential candidates for the role, the Vice President stands out.
The vice president has convinced the NLA leader that he is the greatest candidate to lead Ghana, the NLA chief claimed in an interview with Adom Radio.
God willing, if the NPP opens nominations and His Excellence the Vice President decides to contest, I will support him.

“I asked him two critical questions, including why he wanted to become president. And he told me that his major focus, if he should ever become president one day, is how to create a future of opportunities for young people.
He continued by saying that the vice president had made numerous sacrifices for the NPP, including giving up important posts at the Bank of Ghana and the African Development Bank to work for the organization.
Sammy Awuku added that Bawumia’s testimony provided during the 2012 election appeal was extremely beneficial to the NPP.
The NPP announced the dates for its parliamentary and presidential aspirant elections earlier today.
This follows talks between the National Council and the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday, April 3, 2023, over the dates of the presidential and parliamentary primaries.
The opening and closing dates for the presidential primary in 2023 are Friday, May 26 and Saturday, June 24.
