The Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP Maame Tiwa Addo-Danquah has disclosed that the crime office cannot prosecute Nana Appiah Mensah, known well as NAM1.
The issue of NAM1, the embattled Chief Executive Officer of gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited has been lingering for years after the gold firm collapsed.
According to Maame Tiwa, the reason why EOCO has not prosecuted NAM 1 is that the crime office doesn’t have “sufficient evidence”. NAM 1 has been on bail following his arrest on July 11, 2019, upon his return to the country from Dubai and his detention.
COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah speaking at a forum disclosed that Nana Appiah Mensah has not been prosecuted because there is insufficient evidence to give rise to a realistic prospect of convicting him of any criminal offense arising from the circumstances of his Ponzi scheme activities.
She said: “An example is the Menzgold case. Which law or which Act did he break? And it is becoming difficult even to prosecute that case because no law will define the offense.
“What was the motive of the government in arraigning the CEO of Menzgold when they know the man cannot be prosecuted?” the aggrieved customers asked.”
