The annual Legends and Legacy Ball dubbed Lal Bal was launched with a colourful event on Thursday, 2nd October, 2014, night at the Oak Plaza Hotel in Accra.

Afro pop, highlife and reggae musician, Julius Kojo Antwi, was announced the Legend to be celebrated at this year’s event slated for Saturday, November 1 at the Accra International Conference Center AICC. Each time the organizers or Kojo Antwi is asked why he

Though news hit the media that revered an celebrated musician Kojo Antwi was to be celebrated for 2013 Lal Bal, A. B. Crentsil was later announced and subsequently celebrated at the Accra International Conference Center. The organizers and Kojo Antwi alike, have always been evasive each time they are asked why the performance fiasco.

However, GHBase.com investigation gathers that the performance deal between Kojo Antwi and Imajin Advertising was signed, sealed and delivered as far back as April 2013 and later, Kojo Antwi was paid part of his performance fee – awaiting the balance. The money was humongous we learnt!

Later, Imajin Advertising approached Kojo Antwi and proposed that they want to use some of his songs as MTN Caller Tunes – something Imajin did to A. B. Crentsil on the night of his celebration (Send 21 – Adam and Eve, 22 – Adjoa, 23 – Angelina, 24 – Juliana, 25 – Moses, 26 – Devil, 28 – Osoko, 29 – Papa Samo respectively to 1355 to download as your MTN Caller Tune.

Since that provision or clause was not in their earlier contract, Kojo Antwi insisted they review the earlier contract and capture Imajin’s new proposal into it and seal it off – else, he won’t allow Imajin do that. Imajin allegedly refused.

Again, Imajin Advertising wanted Kojo Antwi to perform with Shabo Crew Band but Kojo Antwi preferred Kwame Yeboah’s ‘Ohia beyeya Band’ which he feels more comfortable and has performs on many stages with. Considering the additional cost of hiring ‘Ohia beyeya Band’ to Shabo Crew Band, Imajin wanted or insisted Kojo Antwi perform with the latter but Kojo declined.

Also, Imajin Advertising wanted to film the concert and later sell the CD copies but since that provision or clause was not in their earlier signed contract, Kojo Antwi insisted they review the earlier contract and capture that new proposal into it and seal it off – else, he won’t allow Imajin do that. Aside the CD selling proposal, Kojo Antwi who is known for quality and professionalism (just as Imajin Advertising), wanted Imajin to assure him of who will film (director), type of camera, and whether the audio-visual would be burnt unto a DVD instead of VCD.

Unfortunately at that point, Imajin Advertising was fed up – felt Kojo Antwi was dragging issues unnecessarily. The issue dragged for long. MUSIGA President Obour had to even intervene in the negotiation exercise (and other showbiz buffs) but neither Kojo Antwi nor Imajin was ready to compromise – hence, Imajin Advertising had to drop Kojo and quickly fall on A. B. Crentsil.
At long last, The Maestro Kojo Antwi is to be celebrated at this year’s Lal Bal. According to the organizers, “lots of surprises will be exhibited at the event on November 1st.” The Lady’s man as he is fondly called has filled the airwaves, hearts and homes for over two and half decades with his unique brand of Afro Pop music.
