Fawad Ahmed career explored

Ahmed, originally from Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, began his cricket career playing for Swabi District in local competitions. As a right-arm leg spinner, he made his first-class debut for Abbottabad in 2005, participating in two matches before being dropped from the team.

Ahmed resumed his first-class cricket journey in 2009, representing Pakistan Customs in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy. Later that year, he also played three additional matches for Abbottabad. In 2010, Ahmed left Pakistan and migrated to Australia on a short-stay visa sponsored by the Yoogali Cricket Association.

Upon arrival, he applied for refugee status, citing persecution by religious extremists due to his involvement in cricket as a player and coach. Hailing from northwest Pakistan, an area bordering Afghanistan and affected by the War in North-West Pakistan, Ahmed chose to settle in Melbourne, Victoria.

He joined Hoppers Crossing in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association and quickly progressed to playing for Melbourne University in Victorian Premier Cricket. Additionally, Ahmed participated in Melbourne’s prominent ‘open’ T20 event organized by Infinity Cricket in 2011 and 2012, representing the Western Warriors and emerging as the Best Bowler of the 2012 Infinity T20 Cricket Tournament.

Despite initially having his application declined, Ahmed was granted permanent residency in November 2012. Shortly after, he signed with the Melbourne Renegades, receiving a special exemption to compete in the Big Bash League. Ahmed made his debut in the league in January 2013, recording figures of 0/34 in his first match. Subsequently, he was selected to play for the Prime Minister’s XI against the West Indies.
