Free DNA tests for Nigerians not true – FG

Nigeria Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimebe Mamora has debunked viral reports on Tuesday that the Federal Government is to commence free DNA tests for Nigerians.

He clarified this information in an interview with The PUNCH when reacting to some comments made on social media that the Minister said government hospitals and clinics would be conducting free DNA tests in June.

The tweets stirred massive reactions as many people expressed their excitement at the opportunity to expose paternity fraud.

Others also wondered if the government can afford the free test however the minister says it’s not true.

A tweep identified as Chijioke, P.HD announced the false report as he wrote, “There will be free DNA test in government owned hospitals from June this year. -Nigerian Health Minister.”

Another twitter user wrote, “With this news on free conducting of DNA tests in Government Hospitals and Clinics (if implemented), the High Courts are really going to get very busy in the coming months”

The minister said, “This is a false claim. At no point did I or the minister say this. The claims about free DNA tests are not true.”
