During a visit to an international food trade fair in Lyon, French President Emmanuel Macron was hit on the shoulder by an egg thrown at him, Al Jazeera reports.
A video of the incident, which occurred on Monday, has gone viral on social media, showing Macron walking through the crowd while an egg bounced off him without breaking.
Two bodyguards can be seen quickly approaching the president to protect his shoulders.
Other bodyguards are also seen escorting a man away from the scene in the video.
According to reporters on the scene, Macron said, “If he has something to tell me, he can come.”
Authorities have not released any information about the man’s identity or motivations.

A man slapped Macron in the face while he was greeting the public in a small town in southeastern France in June.
He then condemned “violence” and “stupidity.” The man was sentenced to four months in prison.
The slap elicited widespread support for France’s president from politicians across the ideological spectrum.
Macron, like his predecessors, enjoys meeting and greeting members of the public.
Crowd baths, as they are known in French, have long been a feature of French politics.
Macron, 43, has not yet announced his reelection bid six months before France’s next presidential election but is expected to do so.
