World football governing body FIFA has released the nominees’ list of the Best FIFA Player of the Year Awards 2020.

Notable names on the list include Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

The FIFA Player of the Year Awards used to be held together with the Ballon D’or until 2016 when FIFA decided to break away and organize their version of the award.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the first edition in 2016 and won it again in 2017. Luka Modric of Real Madrid won the 2018 edition and, Messi won it in 2019.

This year’s ceremony will be held on 17 December, and FIFA has announced their full list of candidates for the seven individual trophies on offer, stating that public voting opens until 9 December at 11:59 pm on FIFA.com.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski is the heavy favourite to win this year’s men’s award.
