Geno Smith bio

Eugene Cyril “Geno” Smith III, an American football quarterback, was born on October 10th, 1990 in Miramar. Florida is a state in the United States.

Smith was admitted to Norland Middle School’s magnet program, where two hours a day were devoted to arts instruction. While attending Miramar High School, he was coached by former Mountaineer Damon Cogdell.

He was named to the second team of all-state quarterbacks as a junior thanks to his 2,200 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, and three interceptions. He was also selected to the second team all-Broward County for 2007 as an athlete.

After his junior year, he received a request to attend the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp in Aliso Viejo, California.

Smith led his team to the state 6A playoffs during his senior season while also rushing for more than 300 yards, completing 205 of 338 passes for 3,089 yards, and scoring 30 touchdowns.

He was a first-team Class 6A all-state selection for Florida and a Parade All-American. He was named the top player in Broward County by The Miami Herald and South Florida Sun Sentinel, and he finished second in the Mr. Florida poll.

He finished his career as the third-best passer in Broward County history, ranking among ESPN’s Top 150 prospects. He chose to enroll at West Virginia despite receiving offers from Florida State, South Florida, Boston College, and Alabama.

Smith played college football for West Virginia, where he helped the Mountaineers win many bowl games, set numerous passing records, and garner numerous awards, before being chosen by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

After two unsuccessful seasons with the Jets, Smith started the team’s last two years as the starting quarterback, but injuries finally cost him the position.

Later, he worked as a backup quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks before unexpectedly reviving his career in 2022 as the team’s starter, making his first Pro Bowl appearance, compiling his first winning record, and qualifying for the playoffs as a starter. He was awarded the Comeback Player Award as a result.
