Ghana can win the World Cup – CAF President Patrice Motsepe

Dr Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, has made the sensational claim that Ghana is capable of winning the World Cup. He was speaking at a breakfast meeting during his two-day working trip to Ghana.

As he told those in attendance, Motsepe praised the country’s talent.

“Ghana has produced some of the world’s best footballers.”

He then cited Champions League winners Abedi Pele and Michael Essien as two of the most prominent examples.

He then went on to emphasize Ghana’s strength concerning the African continent and the rest of the world, saying,

“This country has the talent and resources to produce a national team capable of not only winning the AFCON but also the World Cup.”

He ended on a lighter note, saying that while he saw Ghana as a potential champion as President of the federation, he supported every single association equally.

Ghana’s best FIFA World Cup performance was a quarter-final appearance in South Africa in 2010. Previously, the country advanced to the round of 16 in 2006 and was eliminated in the group stages of the 2014 edition.
