Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the umpteenth time has said he solved the erratic supply of power (dumsor) that plagued his administration a year before the 2016 election.
According to the former president, ‘dumsor’ was completely solved in 2015 and in 2016 Ghanaians did not experience anything close to that because it was nonexistent.
In an exclusive interview with Joy News, John Mahama said although ‘dumsor’ was a longtime problem that has spanned years of different governments, his administration had to solve it when he assumed office.
“It was inherited due to years of underinvestment in the power sector…we manage to solve it by 2015. In 2016 there was no ‘dumsor’ and that was the end of it,” he said.
Mahama also said the ‘dumsor’ problem was created by two factors: the generation problem and the finance problem.
Which according to him was solved by investing in the power sector and ensuring that there was enough money to cover the constant and reliable generation of power.
The ‘dumsor’ argument just like the FREE SHS policy has become a political debate between the NDC and NPP. While Mahaham claims he solved the problem, Prez Akufo-Addo says ‘dumsor’ became a thing of the past after he assumed office in 2017.
