As most award held in Ghana are criticized based on divergent opinions of the public, Ghana DJ Awards slated for February 22 at the National Theater is not an exception. People have started questioning the credibility of the awards since nomination list was released. In a story by George Clifford Owusu, a nominee in this year’s award reveals that he does not deserve nomination for the category he was nominated for.
An Accra-based radio presenter and disc jockey on Hitz FM, Henry Ofori Nyarko, known in the showbiz scene as DJ Perfekt says the Ghana DJ Awards is bogus and lacks credibility.
DJ Perfekt, who claimed he did not deserve any nomination, also questioned the credibility of some of the categories of the awards, especially the Artiste DJ of the Year; a category in which he was nominated.
Although the organisers claimed their research revealed DJ Perfekt played with a live band at a programme of Samini’s and so deserved to be nominated, he denied ever playing live band with Samini and explained that he had not been active on stage. He said adding the last time he played for the artiste (Samini) was four years ago, and so he did not deserve to be nominated.
He therefore warned the awards organisers to drop his name as he did not see any credibility in the scheme, and that the organisers, led by Merqury Quaye, chief executive officer of Merqury Republic Events, had seriously erred in nominating him.
He also said the DJ Awards was bogus and not credible because it was being organised to reward some selected personality in the showbiz industry as well as friends of the organisers.
DJ Perfekt therefore stressed that he did not want to associate himself with such an awards scheme.
