For many years, Nigerian musicians have continued to set the pace for African music, allowing others to follow. Afro beat, Afro Pop etc have taken over the industry.
Music is not only food to the soul but also a means of bringing people from all walks of life together. Young Nigerian musicians who started off in the craft today are now world renowned. People like Olamide, Wizkid, Davido, Falz, Runtown, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade etc are making lots of wave not just in Nigeria but across the globe.
Their songs are now a force to be reckoned with anywhere around the world. However, the same thing cannot be said about Ghana music industry as well as the acts. While the Nigerians are far gone, Ghanaian artistes only take delight in beefing one another citing Shatta Wale – Stonebwoy – Sarkodie as a case study.
So, it’s not surprising that RudeBoy of defunct music group, P-Square has described Ghanaian musicians as not smart thinking acts comparably to Nigerian musicians. According to RudeBoy, the only smart thinking Ghanaian artist is Sarkodie and perhaps either Kuami Eugene or KiDi, the rest are damn dumb in thinking.
“Nigerians we’re too sharp. Let me give you example; why am I saying that? Trust me all the sounds we’re are talking about comes from you guys… The kungko sound came from Ghana. But if you’re not sharp enough Niger we’re sharper, we takeover.” RudeBoy said this in the studios of WGHC Radio in Chicago – USA.
RudeBoy further revealed in the interview in question that although Ghanaian artistes are good when it comes to setting trends citing “Azonto” to buttress his point, however, they continue to do the same thing without diversifying hence the reason why they are stagnated.
As a reminder, Kwesi Arthur barely two months ago in an interview with Emcee Bebe on Cape 93.3FM fame made similar statement that Ghana music is not intentionally recognised. To him, he experienced this during his short stay in LA at the just ended BET awards show.
