Justin Frimpong Kodua, NPP General Secretary, encouraged Ghanaians to applaud President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo for recovering Ghana’s ailing economy despite hurdles.

In a news conference on December 21, 2022, he promised that the government’s measures will continue to help Ghanaians.

Ghana’s currency has plummeted by nearly half relative to the US dollar, and inflation has surpassed 40%.

The government has stopped most of its foreign debt, virtually defaulting as the nation battles to reduce its BOP deficit.

The Ministry of Finance, headed by Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, indicated it would not pay obligations including Eurobonds, commercial loans, and most bilateral loans. Some bondholders questioned the decision’s lack of transparency.

Justin Frimpong Kodua commended the administration for addressing the economic problem.

Says “Why can’t the government be praised for the cedi’s appreciation if it can be blamed for its depreciation? We’re pleased that the enormous appreciation of the cedi has led to a 15.3% fall in transit rates.”

“I must confess that these developments may not fully address the current socio-economic challenges in the nation, but we do feel they may bring a sigh of relief for Ghanaians as we approach the Christmas season,” he said.
