The Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region is conducting an investigation into a horrific accident that occurred over the weekend on the road between Akroso and Asamankese, which claimed the lives of eight individuals.
On Sunday, November 12, a white Toyota Hiace bearing registration number GM 3150-13 and a Pontiac Vibe bearing registration number GG 3528-14 were involved in an incident.
As per the testimonies of onlookers, the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, which was traveling from Asamankese to Achiase along a stretch of road connecting Asamankese and Akroso, lost control of the wheels upon rupturing a tire and, as a consequence, collided head-on with the Toyota Hiace, carrying fifteen passengers.
With the assistance of locals and police personnel, other rescue operators and personnel who raced to the site of the incident immediately afterward were able to transport the injured to the Asamankese government hospital for treatment and the deceased to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Ongoing endeavors are being made to enlist the assistance of bereaved family members in order to identify the corpses of the departed.
