Gospel music fanatics question charterhouse the exclusion of Akua Afriyie’s “Trumpet” from 2019 VGMAs

It’s becoming a norm that Charterhouse, the organisers of Ghana Music Awards, basically take delight in assessing the works of Ghanaian musicians who mostly reside in the country comparably to acts who resides outside the shores of Ghana.

Perhaps that is why acts like Diana Antwi Hamilton who lives in the states mostly come to Ghana occasionally to stage some shows to register her presence. But failure to do so will make it very difficult for a hardworking artiste who lives outside Ghana to get the needed recognition by Charterhouse as in the case of Akua Afriyie.

Sensational Gospel musician, Akua Afriyie who resides in Belgium released a masterpiece record dubbed “Trumpet”. However, Charterhouse board in charge of categories selection failed to cite “Trumpet” record perhaps due to the annulment of Gospel album of year.

Akua Afriyie

Ghbase.com following keenly entertainment shows in Accra, Kumasi as well as Sunyani whereby the VGMAs category lists was an item of discussion, some panelists and callers who are well abreast with the rich content of “Trumpet” tune expressed shock over its exclusion from list.

For some, they attributed the error to to the fact that the composer who happens to be Akua Afriyie is currently not in the country to promote the rich album as expected. Other pundits also voiced that Akua Afriyie failed to secure nomination due to the cancellation of Gospel album of the year category by the academy.

Nonetheless, the onus lies on Charterhouse to make a deeper research to assess the rich content of all tunes filed for consideration and if possible, reinstate the VGMAs Gospel album of the year slot.
