Trolls who are keen to see the failure of musicians have harassed Stonebwoy and his fans since the release of the full list of 2024 Grammy Award nominations.
On social media, these trolls ripped into the Bhim Nation president for not being on the list. They have been disparaging him, saying he was too conceited and that his inflated ego led him to believe he would be selected.
Ghbase.com initially reported that the recently released full list of nominees for the Grammy Awards’ “Best African Music Performance” category did not include Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, or Shatta Wale, Ghana’s mainstream artistes who had bangers in the year under review.
The category was established to acknowledge exceptional recordings that showcase distinct local styles from different African regions. However, the majority of the nominees are Nigerian artists, as anticipated.
The nominations featured four Nigerian artists and one South African in this newly established category.
The nominated artistes and songs include Asake & Olamide – “Amapiano” (Nigeria), Burna – “City Boys” (Nigeria), Davido ft. Musa key – “Unavailable” (Nigeria), Ayra Starr – “Rush” (Nigeria) and Tyla – “Water” (South Africa).
Stonebwoy recently disclosed on his Facebook page that his most recent album, “5th Dimension,” is a finalist for a Grammy Award. He conveyed his appreciation to his followers for letting him share his musical adventure with them.
Stonebwoy was certain that the Recording Academy had already expressed interest in his budding musical career. With millions of plays on Spotify and Audiomack since its debut on April 28, “5th Dimension” has been a big hit.
The album’s seventeen tracks highlight Stonebwoy’s versatility in fusing various musical styles and cultural references into his compositions. After the whole list of nominations was revealed on Friday, trolls attacked Stonebwoy in spite of the favourable reaction.
Despite the widespread trolling, prominent media figure Berla Mundi has come forward to beg Ghanaians not to partake in these damaging activities. She stated;
“Guys stop mocking @stonebwoy . We’ve all seen how hard the guy has worked on getting his brand out there. It doesn’t take a day. Let’s appreciate him for continuing to make strides and encourage other artistes to move out there and get their brands recognised globally. The Nigerians are doing it and their fans are solidly behind them!!! #GRAMMYs.”
