Some folks on social media have taken Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie to the cleaners for keeping mute on the new e-levy which is set to put a burden on a lot of Ghanaians which many are die-hard fans of his.

Amid the new fiscal policies of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), some celebrities have spoken against and as expected of netizens, the rapper should at last have a say on the issue but has kept mute.

The government through the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Attah announced that with effect from 2022, a tax of 1.57% will be placed on all electronic financial transactions including mobile money transactions above GHc100 as part of efforts in generating revenue for the country as road tolls have been abolished.

In reaction to the introduction of the e-levy, a social media user identified as AsepaGhana blamed the current hardship in the country on the Sarkcess Music CEO, Sarkodie citing that he took money from the ruling party and campaigned for them.

One person wrote: “Sarkodie is the reason why we are all suffering today. He took money from NPP and told us in a song that we should continue in this hardship because of Free SHS and Free Electricty. Such a bad endorsement from a big brand like him, today see the effect!”

An Instagram user @retired_celebrities in his reaction slammed Sarkodie whilst pointing out that Sarkodie would have released a song for the opposition party, NDC by now if they were in power but he is quiet because it is NPP.

The user wrote: “As dem dey fool in the country he no see,ebi NDC government anka he go drop dumsor track give them longtee,”
