There is a very heartbreaking video on the internet that gives a sorry account of a Ghanaian teacher teaching students how to use the computer mouse with stones.
Calls for government intervention and donation from philanthropists to the school have intensified but this video actually narrates the uneven and poor educational structure of Ghana.
In this video, the teacher is seen teaching two girls who have never set an eye on a computer mouse how to right-click, double click and drag the mouse with the use of stones.
Due to the unavailability of electricity and computers for the school, the teacher is left with no other option than to use these stones to represent the mouse. This clearly made the comprehension of the lesson difficult for these poor pupils who had no option than to drag and press these stones as mouses clumsily.
This video has broken the hearts of many Ghanaians but it clearly gives the government a very opportune chance to see to the drastic transformation of the nation’s educational structure particularly at the basic level.
Students learning ICT without computers is clearly a no brainer. A similar video popped up in 2017, and as schools resume, it is clear students in some parts of Ghana are going back to using stones to represent computer mouses.
