Holy Communion In The Holy Scriptures

When Christ instructed his disciples to remember his sacrifice as they ate the bread and drank the wine at the yearly Passover festival, communion was then established. Believers in Jesus Christ commemorate and remember his sacrifice of our sins when he died on the cross, just as Israel honoured the sacrifice of the Passover lamb when the death angel passed over their homes.

In holy communion, the bread represents the body of Jesus Christ and the wine his blood. Although receiving communion is an act of worship and memory, it does not rescue us.
