Hot Audio: Agya Koo & Bill Asamoah Fight Over ‘Election Money’ Given To Them By Prez. Akuffo Addo

It seems the swift intervention of President Akufo-Addo may be needed to quench the feud currently brewing between Agya Koo and the President of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Actors Guild of Ghana, Bill Asamoah.

Agya Koo, the popular Ghanaian actor who claims to have solely revived and raised the movie industry, has alleged that Bill Asamoah, who has in his possession some money given to him by the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo-led government, is blocking him (Agya Koo) from taking his share.

The popular actor who declared his support and campaigned vigorously for NPP in the 2016 elections claims, and for the glaringly obvious reason, that he was told by President Akufo-Addo right in his hall that the money had already been given out, and that he (Agya Koo) needed to go for his share.

In a banter with Pesewas (Bill Asamoah’s “spokesperson”) who contended that he (Agya Koo) can’t enjoy that money because he’s not a member of the Actors Guild of Ghana on Nhyira Fm’s Entertainment Power hosted by Okukuseku, Agya Koo queried:

“He (Pesewas) is asking why I didn’t ask President Akufo-Addo where the money was going to? Maybe he (Peswas) has no idea of my pedigree in this country. If he cares to know, I was right there with him (President Akufo-Addo) in his hall when he told me that the money had already been given. “Is it only the members of the Actors Guild who have to share that money?

In whose name do they go there for the money? The money belongs to any actor or actress who has played a role in the industry. By the way, why is it that they don’t take out our movies from theirs when they go there for the money?” Agya Koo concluded by threatening to teach Bill Asamoah (and his Ashanti Regional Branch of the Actors Guild of Ghana) some sense if he (Agya Koo) doesn’t get his share of the money. Background to the whole issue:

The money which Agya Koo is fighting over to have his share is a One Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000,000) fund which has been set aside by the Akufo-Addo-led Government to be accessed by the various recognized member associations within the Creative Arts Industry — and in this case the Actors Guild of Ghana of which Agya Koo is not a member.

However, because the purpose for which the fund — which is a collection of a levy on music-movie related products like computers, CDs, pendrives etc. imported into the country — is set aside has never been realized practically since its inception by the NDC government in the past years, it (the fund) has always been seen as “election money” given to the “foot-soldiers” of the ruling government within the Creative Arts member associations for sharing hence the many issues always emerging out of it.
