Kweku Baako was a known antagonist of the late military cum democratically elected former president, Jerry John Rawlings.

The two were never on good terms and historically, Rawlings had the seasoned journalist arrested and imprisoned for some few months somewhere in 1998 alongside another ace journalist Haruna Atta of The Weekend Statesman.

A former soldier and good friend of Mr. Rawlings, Riad Hosiefe has disclosed in an interview on Asempa FM that back in the days when Rawlings was a military ruler, Kweku Baak referred to him as a bastard- in reference to his Scottish father who was unknown.

This infuriated the soldier friends of the late president so they decided to eliminate him but as Rawlings got to know, he decided to intervene and spare Kwaku’s life.
