I am not doing songs against Prez. Akufo-Addo because he has solved ‘Dumsor’ – Sarkodie

Rapper Sarkodie has said his decision not to speak about the ills or shortfalls of the current Akufo-Addo government unlike the erstwhile Mahama administration is because ‘Dumsor’ has been solved.

In a song he released a day ago titled “Happy Day’ which featured Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie did not just endorse the candidature of the incumbent Akufo-Addo but said his decision is motivated by the solving of “Dumsor.”

‘Dumsor’ is the popular local name given to the erratic supply of power which plagued Ghana for a long time and became unbearable during the 4-year first term fo Former President Mahama.

This phenomenon, coupled with other shortfalls in the government at that time gave Sarkodie every reason to criticize the government through the release of songs like “Dumsor,” Masses etc which spoke directly to the issues at hand.

Fast forward, when President Akufo-Addo took over the government in 2017, Ghanaians were expecting Sarkodie to continue with his national agenda of doing music to critique the government but that has not happened yet.

Many have expressed concern and labelled Sarkodie as an affiliate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), an affiliation which may have barred him from speaking on the shortfalls of the government musically.

Well, that perception was confirmed after he said in the “Happy Day’ song that he was motivated to speak against Mahama because of Dumsor and now that Dumsor has been solved, he sees no need in releasing songs to critique the government.

“When dumsor came, I said some. Even inflation, I hammered on it. So if today, I’m enjoying reliable power supply and my children would attend school for free, then I’m sorry, Nana continue.”
